ScienceDaily (2007-09-17) -- Red imported fire ants may be killing as many as a fifth of baby song birds before they leave the nest, according to new research. Of the nests where there was no pesticide treatment protecting the baby birds from fire ants, only 10 percent of the young birds fledged and were able to leave the nests. Of the treated nests 32 percent of the baby birds fledged

This is a large mound at the end of the woods at a horse farm. they have 5 horses and 5 goats. the mound is at least 2 feet tall. We are now working on this project. I will set the fire ant trap next to the mound.

the fire ants love to built up inside the trap because they feel safe. fire ants have the 3 things they need, warmth, food and moisture. the trap also prevents the winged ants from launching from the mound to mate.

sometimes i do not understand the logic of some people when it comes to treating fire ants. i have been studying fire ants for 9yrs.I have no idea what they were except ants that bite and why cannot some one get rid of them. I heard people use gasoline, kerosene, hot water, pesticides with water and powders. what they do not understand is the gasoline and kerosene is illegal but also pollutes the ground for many years and get into our ground water. they both have cancer-causing agents in them. people have wells and drink water from the wells, not good. hot water kills the grass and bushes or flowers near the water. powders can get into your lungs if you breath it or the wind blows your way. Don't you know 67 MILLIONS BIRDS DIE every year due to pesticides. Most fire ants pesticides are toxic to fish, birds, and bees. The birds think it is food on the ground. the fish can die from runoff. did you know that 22,000 trouts in Texas in 1998 ingested fire ants-dead winged one, on a river and died because their poison is toxic. We are polluting our ground with too much pesticide so we can have a manicure lawn. A school where i live sprayed at the school last year for fire ants. the following week, a principal told me that 4 yellow finch died and another person say that a teacher got a rash on her arm after they sprayed. So what is it doing to the children? sign of pesticide poisoning is like flu-like symptoms, breathing problems and maybe rash. did you know that children ages 6-11 have the highest level of pesticides in their body. We as parents do not think to get our child tested. we dont realize that the school field where our kids play has pesticides on them and the kids can get pesticides absorbed thro the skin. Parent need the study some web sites on pesticides and the effects they are having on our childrens. If this country is going GREEN why not go green with our soil. We invented our product to be a friend to nature. The bird, bee and fish would be protected from pesticides while you get rid of your fire ants. We did not realize at the time that fire ants fly up in the air to mate, guess what ,they cannot launch off the mound to the air because the mound is covered with the trap. Our invention protects the pesticide from the elements such as wind, rain and sunlight. We have given the ants a hotel with room service. You use less pesticide and it last longer. The ants love the trap because it is warm and heats the eggs up. Will i will quit for tonight Good night

The first day i placed 28 traps out it rained 4 hrs. later,i mean a thunderstorm. I am so glad the bait poison was inside the trap and dry. the mounds in the yard were well established but i am winning. as of the 27th of May. i had 31 dead, and a total of 10 new mounds found.this person is handicapped with a 2yr old grandchild and could not take care of the yard so I was hired to control the fire ants in the yard. seeya later.

Well, its almost 11pm and this is my first blog ever.I am new to this but might as well get started.I am the Fire Ant Control Team,Inc I am treating a private school for fire ants with our traps. When i survey the property i found 49 fire ant mounds. I placed 49 traps out the first week on May 16 and now today I have only10 traps left and with new mounds found over the last few weeks for a total of 62 fire ant mounds,I have eradicated 52 mounds. It is great because it rained a few hours after placing the first set out. the pesticide inside was protected. at another house i survey i found 28 fire ant mounds on 1 acre of land.,after placing 28 traps down after the first week i had 20 mounds dead. It had rained3-4 hours after placing the traps down that evening.Using dry bait poison with the trap you are pretty well guarantee the workers ants will take the bait to the queen, once she is gone the mound dies. The school i have saved them from 1,040 new fire ant mounds that would have developed if the mounds have been left alone since each mound will make 20 new mounds a year. going to bed will write soon.
